Bengal elections 2021: TMC gains votes, BJP and Congress gain memes
Today all eyes are set on the counting of votes in India as people anxiously await election results. One of the most interesting cases is that of West Bengal where the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) gave each other fierce competition throughout the election campaigning.
As of Sunday afternoon, TMC is maintaining a massive lead in West Bengal. As per data from the Election Commission at 3 pm, the Mamata Banerjee-led party was leading in more than 200 seats, with the BJP a distant second.
Twitter today is buzzing with tweets about the elections. BJP has become the subjects of many jokes and memes as they trail behind in Bengal. And while BJP and TMC proceed their war, Congress is getting trolled for presenting no efforts and gaining barely any votes.
NEW DELHI: The Congress on Sunday said it has lost elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal but has not lost its morale or resolve to continue to be people s voice in these tough times. Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the party would deliberate on its failures and do course correction after internal deliberations. We have lost the election in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal but we have neither lost our morale nor our resolve or determination to continuously become people s voice in these times of unprecedented calamity. The Congress Party will definitely study the results and all the reasons diligently and we are committed to correct our mistakes and do appropriate course correction, he told reporters at a virtual press conference.
After the announcement of results on Sunday, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that it s a disappointment for the party, but it gave tough fight to the LDF in Kerala.
KOLKATA: The ruling Trinamool Congres looks set to retain power in West Bengal with its candidates leading in 202 of the state s 292 seats that went to poll against the BJP s 79, as trends were available for 286 seats.
Chief minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee was, however, trailing her former protege-turned-BJP rival Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram by over 8,000 votes.
Belying expectations of a tight contest, the TMC candidates appeared galloping to victory, and, if the current trends hold, the party will easily form its third successive government in the state.
TMC supporters were seen celebrating with green gulal at different places, including in front of Banerjee s residence at Kalighat.
